The Lotus Carlton

This extraordinary project evolved from the joint enthusiasm of some of the senior executives of General Motors and Lotus. Bob Eaton, President of GM and Mike Kimberly, MD of Lotus wanted to create a turbocharged Senator, this idea developed into one of the fastest production cars in the world.

Only 950 cars were produced out of the expected run of 1100, and of that only 250 came to the UK in right hand drive form. Production of the Lotus Carlton was started in September 1990, and was available until early 1994, but despite the performance of these cars, sales were slow, and the hefty price tag of £48,000 did not help.
